Final Test
As a final test, the rider should sit in the correct posture on the adjusted Velochecker and, while pedalling, take her hands off the handlebars by opening them and moving them sideways off the handlebar ends. If the rider is able to continue pedalling casually without changing the position of the upper torso then she will also be able to maintain this sitting position for extended rides.
If this position still feels new to you, keep in mind that all postures and movements can be learnt and trained. However, it is important that you remain aware of these ergonomic principles and that you are able to recognise incorrect posture (round back!). If you cycle regularly you will soon be able to internalise the correct back position, and hand and back problems will be things of the past.
Keep in mind that, for the correct riding posture, you will need a well-fitting saddle. If you have the feeling that you are unable to ride with an S-shaped spine because this would cause saddle-related problems, then try lowering the nose of the saddle by 5 to 10 mm and look for a better-fitting saddle. Do not let an inappropriate saddle be the reason for riding with poor posture. Your back will suffer the consequences
