Saddle

When riding in a forward-leaning position a narrower and longer saddle will fit better. However, for more upright riding postures, you will need a saddle with a wider sitting surface. The optimal saddle shape is dependent not only on the differing distribution of weight between the supportive arms and the buttocks: The degree to which the pelvis is tilted – independent of the upper body tilt - also has an important influence. The tilting of the pelvis determines the positioning of the pressure points on the saddle.

This is where the unparalleled advantages of the Brooks leather saddle lie: Over time the saddle takes on the optimal form for the rider.
However, the leather must be protected from moisture so that the saddle can retain its shape. Often a firmer saddle is more appropriate for longer rides, as long as the shape of the saddle fits the rider. When pedalling, the side under less pressure (where the foot is at the top of the pedal stroke) has better circulation than it would with a gel saddle, where the pressure is always evenly distributed on both sides.
