Hydraulic Rim Brakes
The hydraulic brakes from Magura are practically maintenance free with exceptional braking power. The brake pads, which are the only parts subject to wear, are easy to replace. And you’ll never have to worry about stiff or splitting brake cables again! The HydroStop is a true safety asset and has been used successfully by Patria for more than 18 years.
The brake cylinders for the HS11 and HS33 are mounted with quick-release adapters that make wheel removal as easy as with cantilever brakes.
Both models are mounted with brake boosters, which provide for a better pressure point and prevent brake squeaking.
The top-of-the-line model HS33 offers even more braking power because the master cylinder in the brake lever produces higher braking pressure. Furthermore the HS33 has a “turbo pad-wear adjuster” knob on the brake levers that allow for easy adjustment of the brake pads.
The HS33 is available with both two-finger or longer
4-finger brake levers.
For bikes with wider tyres, like the POTSDAM, Patria manufactures special brake mounts and boosters. These specially developed components are only available for Patria bikes.
Hydraulic Disc Brakes
The Louise disc brakes from Magura are fully hydraulically actuated. Hydraulic brakes offer several advantages over cable-actuated (mechanical) models: excellent modulation, freedom from maintenance and zero power loss through cables.
The most important advantages for disc brakes over rim brakes are as follows:
- high braking power, not influenced by weather or road conditions
- no delayed braking power in rain
- no risk of dangerously worn rim walls
On the other hand, disc brakes are somewhat heavier than mechanical brakes and make rubbing sounds if they are not properly adjusted.
On thefront wheel the brake calliper must be mounted to a fork blade appropriate for disc brakes (either special Patria steel forks or suspension forks).
For the rear wheel calliper the bicycle frame must have disc brake mounts, which is the case for all models with adjustable dropouts. Rear disc brakes can be combined with any type of derailleur gears, as well as with Rohloff, Alfine and i-Motion gear hubs. There are practically no restrictions for front-wheel use: Even the SON hub dynamo is compatible, as is the Shimano hub dynamo.
